Festival to bridge gap between NER and Delhi

GUWAHATI, October 8: To bridge the gap between the North East Region
(NER) and the national capital New Delhi, a two day festival called as
the North East Festival would be organised at New Delhi on November 8
and November 9 next. The festival will showcase the vibrant future,
present and past of NER and would be attended by renowned
personalities, academicians, student bodies and civic society groups.
This was shared by Shyamkanu Mahanta, organiser in chief, North East
Festival at a press meet held in the city today.

“The event is being organized by Trend MMS, the leading cultural trust
of the region in collaboration with Ministry of DoNER, Government of
India; North East MP’s forum and IGNCA, Ministry of Culture,
Government of India. This would be an annual event, henceforth. This
year, the emphasis is on Tourism and Culture, Skill Development and
Entrepreneurship. It is an attempt to connect to people of various
ethnicities and to encourage investment and progress,” Mahanta added.

The event would be attended by the Chief Ministers of all the eight
North Eastern states to discuss the development initiatives of states.
The festival would also present a day–long performance of dance from
across the North East, North East ethnic food, fashion show by North
East premier designers and models. Olympic Bronze medallist MC Mary
Kom and seasoned actor Adil Hussain are the brand ambassador of the
festival.

To bridge the gap and to create awareness, it isproposed to organize North East 
Festival on 8th&
9thNovember, 2013 at IGNCA Ground, Janpath, New Delhi. It is organised in
association with Ministry of DoNER, Govt of India in association with Indira
Gandhi National Center for the Arts (IGNCA) by Trend MMS, leading cultural
trust of North East having experience in organizing mega cultural event. North
East based organization based in Delhi such as North East MPs Forum, North East
Image Managers, North East Media Forum would be associated in organizing the
event.
An organizing committee is formed to organize the
event comprising ShriHarishankar Brahma, Election Commissioner of India, Dr.
JayantaMadhab, eminent economist, Mr. TakamSanjoy, Hon'ble MP, Shri A Jamir,
Chief Secretary of Nagaland, Shri WMS Pariat, Chief Secretary of Meghalaya,
ShriHaukhumHauzel, Member Secretary, Mizoram Planning Board, Mr. AM Singh,
Joint Secretary, DoNER, Shri SN BrohmoChowdhury, Adviser (NE) Planning
Commission of India, ShriPradyot Deb Barma, Maharaja of Tripura, Mr. Karma
Gyatso, Adviser to CM, Sikkim as Board of Advisers. Students Association of the
North East region based in Delhi and Delhi based NER State Associations would
also be part of the organising team.

The idea behind organizing this unique North-East
Festival is to highlight and showcase the rich cultural heritage, food habits,
handloom handicraft and tourism of the North East to the National Capital. This
is to raise awareness of the region in the National Capital wherein wrong
perceptions have created confusion. This is also to create visualization for a
healthy and productive communion of cultures for peace, harmony and development
of the feeling of the National Integrity. The event will also showcase the huge
tourism prospect of the North-East region.
There will be an exclusive stall from Ministry of
Women and Child Development for women empowerment, their safety and rights as
there are many instances of women violation of women rights, misbehavior,
racial attack, especially towards girls from North-east in National Capital and
other cities of India.

One of the objective of the event is to erase from
the minds of the people of the North-East the feeling of ostracize from the
mainstream and the negative perception of people from other parts of India.Our
country mates should have an experience of the richness of the lively culture
and tradition and the hospitality of theirNorth-Easternregion.
This two day eventwill try to showcase the cultural
and traditional heritage of North-east to rest of India and will be a platform
for creating awareness, removing misconception and promoting the feeling of
integration with rest of India. The event will be marked by:

Tour Operators Meet- Exhibitions by leading tour
operators of North East India. B2B interaction by North East Tour operator over
a session with National tour operators including All India Tour operators and
Adventure Tour Operators.
A session to discuss the important issues of the
region, especially skill development and investment promotion.
Success stories of North East- Entrepreneurship,
sports, culture etc
Tribal dancers would perform dance performance
throughout the days highlighting various tribes of the region.
Cultural programs in evening - musical and ethnic
dance performance by popular musiciansand dancers from the North-East Region
Handicrafts display/ exhibition from each
North-east States
Ethnic food festival - showcasing the culinary
skills from the entire region
Exhibition of North East Books/ Musical CDs,
artists would showcase paintings and photography depicting the entire region
Seminars/Symposia on various North-East related
issues to create a healthy discussion and analysis forum with North-East icons
like Mary Kom, BhaichungBhutia, ArnabGoswami, Angaraag Mahanta, etc.
Media interaction of different NE organizations in
the National Capital
Special awards would be given to outstanding
personalities from the North East who have excelled in various fields.
