Tej floats foundation to globalise Bhupenda’s legacy STAFF REPORTER GUWAHATI, Oct 31 – The Dr Bhupen Hazarika Foundation (BHF), formed with the objective to promote the ideals and vision of the cultural icon, will strive towards taking the legacy of the bard to the international community mainly through translation, academic activities and public services.
Speaking to media persons here on Thursday, Tej Hazarika, founder of the BHF informed that the book Demystifying Dr Bhupen Hazarika: Envisioning Education for India will be released in Assamese language next year. This book includes the complete reproduction of the doctoral thesis that Bhupen Hazarika wrote way back in 1952 when he was pursuing his studies in Colombia University. The book edited by Tej Hazarika is also going to be translated into Gujarati and Marathi. “The Foundation is going to facilitate and regulate the quality of translation projects of all Bhupen Hazarika’s written works into major sub-continental and North Eastern languages as well as the other language groups of the world,” said Tej. Expressing that he felt fortunate to be back again in Assam, Tej said that his father’s vision for the evolution of the people of Assam and the North East as custodians of a culture based on respect for diversity and human rights will definitely be realized in the days to come. The BHF is going to archive Bhupenda’s literary prose, poetry, essays, his films, paintings, calligraphy etc, maintain an official website and media page with live updates, document the rich culture, heritage, history of Assam and North East in print and electronic format, besides giving emphasis on education and transmission of values .
