Dear Mr. Bhuban Baruah, Thanks for the reactions. I posted the news item as I feel that India has a long way to go to catch up with the developed world. It is another example of incredible India. On one hand we are sending rockets to the Mars and on the other hand we are running our offices using antique office equipment. This limits the utilisation of the full potentials of the office workers. Using modern typing methods one can achieve faster Word Per minute rate than the 40WPM. 100+ WPM is no exception. http://typingtesthq.com/ About 35 years ago my children as a lower primary school student at the age of 10 started learning typing by the Scheidegger method (http://tinyurl.com/nf8n8vo ), They had to rent a protable type writer. They achieved 40+ WPM speed. My granddaughter at the same age now no longer needs to learn typing with a type writer. She has done an online Touch typing course (http://www.typingstudy.com ). Want to do a typing test? Check http://typingtesthq.com/ .
Check also "Free typing test and typing tutor" at http://www.learn2type.com . Want to learn Touch typing with fun? Try http://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/typing . Another 10 years touch typing will be outdated and would be replaced by systems like Voice Input. We already have it in our smart phones. Check "Google Voice Search offers natural user input" (http://tinyurl.com/q9mx9nb ) Regards, Wahid -----Original Message----- From: assam [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of [email protected] Sent: Wednesday, 13-11-2013 07:30 To: [email protected] Subject: assam Digest, Vol 100, Issue 6 Send assam mailing list submissions to [email protected] To subscribe or unsubscribe via the World Wide Web, visit http://assamnet.org/mailman/listinfo/assam_assamnet.org or, via email, send a message with subject or body 'help' to [email protected] You can reach the person managing the list at [email protected] When replying, please edit your Subject line so it is more specific than "Re: Contents of assam digest..." Keyboard speed is acquired using the fingers of both hands without looking at the keyboard. i saw a similar advertisement somewhere some time ago.I am no longer familiar with modern office practices. I suppose the 'blind' method may be picked up on a desktop or laptop as well. Even if typewriters are still used in IR, I believe they would be on their way out in the next five years to come ( high opex and capex) , unless some higher up is making a lot of dough keeping these ancient machines running. I wouldn't be surprised if a related scam comes to light in the near future. As for touch-typing ( 'blind' typing with both hands ) can be taught to or learnt by anyone on a computer keyboard in 30 days max, in 20-30 mins sessions each day. And they don't even need tutors for this; there are some really good free and paid typing softwares , one can use to teach herself touch-typing, gaining a typing proficiency of at least 40 words/minute. This skill is acquired after practising at the keyboard by using the fingers of the two hands.I have seen similar advertisements elsewhere. Besides the desktop and the ubiquitous laptop, there is the electronic typewriter with memory and other facilities akin to those of an word processor. I have a feeling that one can learn touch-typing at the desktop keyboard as well, but I do not know whether it is being practised. I am not familiar with modern office practices any more.
