Northeast to be visible in IFFI
The forthcoming Indian international film festival (IFFI), to be launched from
20 November in Goa, will witness a specially curated section showcasing 19
award wining movies from northeast India. The package from the alienated region
of the country is expected to ‘explore the immense ethnic, traditional and
cultural diversity in the eight states of the north-east,’ said the organisers
of the 44th international film festival of India scheduled for 20 to 30
November next.

The northeast package  includes acclaimed films directed by some outstanding
film makers like Dr Bhupen Hazarika,  Dr Bhabendra Nath Sakia, Jahnu Barua,
Aribam Syam Sharma, Gautam Bora, Manju Borah, Jwngdao Bodosa and others, which
would find place in the 10-day festival which would screen altogether 200 films
representing 48 countries.
Organised by the IFFI secretariat under the aegis of Indian information &
broadcasting ministry in collaboration with the Goa government, the festival
brings cinema from across the world to the country and tries to present a
boutique of contemporary and classic cinema through screening, academic
discussion and cultural exchange programmes.
“The festival will be attended by Academy award-winning Hollywood actor, Susan
Sarandon, critically acclaimed Iranian film maker Majid Majidi, Polish
filmmaker Agnieszka Holland, along with luminaries from Indian cinema including
actor Rekha and legendary singer Asha Bhosle,” said an official statement of
the organisers.
“It’s an honour for all of us to represent our region in the festival, which is
today recognised as one of the important film festivals in the world. We have a
different story to tell to the world through our film works, which may not be
similar to mainstream Indian movies,” said Manju Borah, whose first full-length
feature film titled Baibhav A Scam in Verse will be screened in the festival.
The other films from Assam, selected for screening in Goa, include Rupkonwar
Jyotiprasad Aru Joymoti by the legendary musician and Dada Saheb Phalke awardee
