Efforts to promote books on NE lauded

GUWAHATI, July 4 – ‘Grantha Parichiti 2014-’15,’ the city-based Ruchira Arts
Foundation’s annual volume on the books written on the NE region by the authors
of the NE region during the last year, was published at a function held at the
Guwahati Artists’ Guild auditorium here on July 3. This is the seventh volume
of the volume.
According to a press release, releasing the book, noted writer and journalist
Dr Sivanath Barman lauded the efforts of the voluntary organisation Ruchira
Arts Foundation for its efforts to promote the books on the NE region
singlehandedly. In other areas, such ventures are undertaken by the
organisations like the publishers’ guild etc. But here in the State a small
organisation has been relentlessly doing it for seven years, said Dr Barman.
He expressed the hope that the volume would be able to generate interest among
the people towards book reading.
Addressing the function, trustee of the Ruchira Arts Foundation Anuj Goswami
said that though some dedicated persons have been labouring to prepare and
publish the book for the past seven years, time has come to form a broad-based
editorial board to improve its quality.
Another trustee of the Foundation Sanjib Sabhapandit said that efforts are on
to make the book available on the website www.ruchiraarts.in. The Foundation is
also holding weekly discussions at its office on books to generate awareness
about books.
Addressing the function, noted writer Padmapani lauded the publishers for their
efforts, while Rajat Bharali of Hajo expressed the hope that the publishers
would include in the volume the books written by the rural area writers too.
Bibekananda Choudhury pleaded for publication of quarterly bulletins, which
would include introductions on the books. Dr Paramananda Majumdar suggested
inclusion of the books published by the universities of the State too in the
Grantha Parichiti.
The function was also addressed by Janardan Goswami, Aparajita Lahkar, Gitumani
Pathak, Sangeeta Medhi, Pallavi Priya Koch, Rajkamal Bhuyan and Mamoni Pathak
