The Epic Ramayana has acted as a messenger of peace, hope and harmony among
people cutting across language and religion. The South-East Ramayana Research
centre was founded by AsomRantaJnanpith Award from Assam late Dr. Indira
Goswami who was also known as Mamoni Raisom Goswami. She was an outstanding
writer and Ramayana scholar. The centre was inaugurated in 2008 by one of the
greatest Ramayana scholar Dr. Nuria Mohammad of Malaysia. The centre is liberal
in its outlook and perspective. Mamoni Raisom Goswami has done one and all has
done extensive Research on the appeal of the Ramayana in the North-Eastern
region.

OBJECTIVES:
» The prime object of the centre is comparative studies on Ramayana. The
appeal of which has transcended the geographical and cultural boundaries of
India.
» Publishing important books preferably to stimulate interest and research on
the Ramayana that had existed in Assam from the 7th century.
» Translating books on the Ramayana from regional languages into English and
to facilitate reading access to valuable materials on the Ramayana for the
students, scholars and researchers of this great epic.
» The centre is planning to translate into English a few valuable books like
Saint Sankardeva’sAnkiaNaat, Ram Vijay NaatRaghunathMahanta’s Katha Ramayana
and to Prof. SatyendraNathSarma’s Ramayana Itibritta.
» To project work all places related to Ramayana Age discounted till in date
Assam. The centre is also trying to identify the places which were named after
characters of the Ramayana. In this context centre will publish a book
highlighting all these places, memorials and temples.
» One of the objectives of the centre is also to publish books on different
versions of the Ramayana existing in various tribal languages of the
North-East, so that people all over the world get a glimpse of the vibrant and
rich Ramayana tradition prevailing in Assam.
» To create awareness on the epic Ramayana and to inculcate the teaching of
the Ramayana and to educate the youngsters about its use in day to day life by
organizing seminars, workshop and discourses on the Ramayana and their reliable
perception in different geo-cultural region of South-East Asia and beyond.
» To organize various cultural and academic programs and competitions among
children and youth on essay writing, story telling, drama and fine arts etc.

(a) ‘Ravana Myth, legend and lore’ by Mamoni Raisom Goswami and
Manfeel Barua.
(b) English translation of ‘Agony of Sita’ by Dr. Malini Goswami.
(c) An Assamese translation of Thai Ramayana ‘Sri RamakritiMahakavya’
by SubrataBarua.
(d) Assamese translation of Mamoni Raisom Goswami voluminous work of
‘Ganga to Brahmaputra’ by Partha Pratim Hazarika.
» An annual research journal has been published edited by Upendra Nath Sarma.
» The centre has organized essay compitition on Ramayana among school and
college students.
» The centre had organized an international seminar on Ramayana text and
content.
» Various cultural programmes based on Ramayana.

» The centre has got a modern library consisting of valuable books on
Ramayana, other religion, literature collected from all over the world.
» An auditorium to held functions related to Ramayana.
» A museum of all the awards received by Dr. Indira Goswami
(MamoniRaisomGoswami) during her life time.

The centre is a humble and small institution established single handedly by
