The renowned ‘Tezpur Government Higher Secondary School’ was established in the year 1868. From the British period; this educational institution was a remarkable center for spreading knowledge and culture on the whole Brahmaputra Valley. Its solemn aim to prepare every pupil a worthy citizen of this country. Carrying this heritage, we can able to see a large number of alumni glittering in the national and international arena. “Kalaguru Bishnu Prasad Rabha, Rupkonwar Jyoti Prasad Agarwala, Natasurya Phani Sarmah, Bharat Ratna (Sudhakantha) Dr. Bhupen Hazarika” the great maestros of Assam, who unveiled renaissance studied from this institute. The first entrance (1872) qualifier was ‘Late Ram Sarmah’. Gradually the school was upgraded in the year 1961 up to Higher Secondary Level (i.e. class xi) During the pre-independence period, the names of the 1st rank holder of H.S.L.C was Nanidhar Kalita (1947) and post-independence was ‘Achyut Kr. Saikia’ (1952) Consecutively 1st Rank Holder of H.S.S.L.C examination was ‘Purnananda Choudhary’ (Arts Stream) in the year of 1966. The School again upgraded to Higher Secondary level (i.e. 10+2) in the year 1973. Further, 1st Rank Holder of 10+2 level or H.S.S.L.C examination(Commerce Stream ) was ‘Shri Prabir Ranjan Sarmah’ in the year of 2010. The whole land area of the school campus is 12-Bigha, 3-Katha, 11-Lecha, Dag no-1980, 2010 & 1987 and Geographical extension is 26o62/34//N and 92o79/37//E The Govt. M.E. School was established in the year 1836-37 on the opposite side of the existing school which was amalgamated in 2017. The prestigious President awardees from this school were Principals ‘Dharmadas Choudhury’ and ‘Nanimadhav Baruah’. Teaching-Learning in the school is based on methods like interaction with students, systematic lectures, tutorials, and assignments.
