Youths urged to shun sloth, develop vibrant work culture SHAMBHU BORO TEZPUR, Oct 8 - At a time when scores of youths are suffering from unemployment-induced depression, the Girijananda Institute of Management and Technology (GIMT) here has literally come as a boon for those frustrated youths through various career-oriented courses. An outcome of the selfless zeal of GIMT’s Principal Dr Buljit Buragohain, it may be mentioned that GIMT has been conducting different short-term and long-term programmes for the poor and disadvantaged section by imparting training on masonary and electrical works and thus ushering in a new ray of hope among the educated but otherwise unemployed youths. It may be mentioned that the GIMT here was established by Srimanta Shankar Academy (SSA) Society and the Government of Assam. The GIMT campus, which was earlier lying barren, has presently turned into a hub of education. During publication of the sixth edition of their regular mouthpiece titled GIMTIAN, Dr Buljit Buragohain, who is Principal of the institute, mentioned that many students passing out from GIMT have been able to get placement in different fields, thereby finding means of sustenance.
In the near future, there will be more institutions, including nurses’ training centre in the GIMT campus which will provide a new dimension in combating the burgeoning unemployment problem in the region, he said, adding that for promoting new ideas and creating a new trend in the field of innovation, besides reflecting the interest of the students’ community, frequent beneficial events are organised in the institution. Dr Buragohain, who is popular among the students as a successful motivator, besides organising certain special programmes like expert lecture sessions on the importance of energy conservation and auditing in power system analysis, workshop on innovation and entrepreneurship, publication of regular mouthpiece GIMTIAN etc., has assisted the students telephonically on career guidance. Urging the educated unemployed youths of the region to get involved in productive work, he mentioned that there should be no classification of job if it is accepted heartily and honestly. Pointing out the caste system, slow economic growth, rapid increase in population, agriculture as a seasonal occupation, joint family system, decline of cottage and small industries, slow growth of industrialisation etc., as major reasons behind the unemployment problem in the region, Dr Buragohain appealed to the new generation to shun sloth and get involved in any positive work with a progressive mindset, thereby building up a work culture.
