... does that term 'jokaichutiya' mean anything, or is it just a bit of linguistic caricature? ... -- Chandan Mahanta
"Jokaichutiya tongue" is one of the foreign languages that I learnt. Roman script-set is not the native for this tongue. So confuse in pronunciation, e.g., the word axon of gurur axon as Mahanta writes, then compare the same for English/Latin/Greek word axon.
Main Entry: axon
Pronunciation: 'ak-"sn
Variant(s): also axone /-"sOn/
Function: noun
Etymology: New Latin axon, from Greek axOn
Date: circa 1899
: a usually long and single nerve-cell process that usually conducts impulses away from the cell body
- axonal /'ak-s&-n&l; ak-'s-, -'sO-/ adjective
It is appropriate to refer those men Jokaichutiya as well who had failed to teach a single word during the past two decades or so to their children from this language, but trying hard to teach the rest mutilating words, phonemes etc -- they are Jokaichutiya.
Jokaichutiya is correct term, one just need to tune up the tongue a bit, and thanks to Mahanta whthout whom this dictionary would not have been possible.

Nomoskar Deka-kai:Bwlw bhalne apwnar? Maje xomoye bes jomai aase dei aapuni.
But I have a complaint. Why do you drag me into your scientific disputes with sondon-kai? And why do you bad-mouth Jokai-suk.
Kwn jokaisukiyai apwnar paani khwa pukhurit bih dhalile, kokswn baaru ( what Jokaisukiya person has poisoned your drinking water source) that you go about calling us jokaichutiyas? Nepaai dei. I have the highest regard for Assam netters, who never make fun of other peoples birthplaces or their names by twisting them or making caricatures of them, even though it is a pastime that many of us kharkhowas grew up with.
Anyway, does that term jokaichutiya mean anything, or is it just a bit of linguistic caricature? I have this nagging feeling that somehow it is not a very nice term. But I could be wrong.
>Track Rajen Barua and Xaurav Pathak (our man & lad) to get more info
>on IPA especially try to learn from them whether the Jokaichutiya
>tongue is ever listed/known to the developers of IPA concept and
>phonemes.I really dont know how to track them. I am just an animal shrinklogist, not a tracker. What is this IPA bidness, Rabin-kai? And what does that have to do with how we might choose to represent the xo sound as in (Oxomiya) in Roman letters? Why are you so partial to the S letter instead of the x? It is just a matter of convenience to differentiate between the xo and so sounds, a distinct characteristic of the Assamese language. I know it is not a Kamrupiya tradition ( I went to Bhetnari Kolez in Kamrup District), I mean the ess. So why the hang-up? Are you very involved with the ease of pronunciations of Assamese words by any chance? Just because no-one took permission from you ( I know they should have) to use the x letter, must you take it as a scientific affront and demand explanations like By any chance do you have the statistics of frequency-ranges on velar fricative phonemes? Jiminy Christmas, R-kai!
I know that Sondon -kai really stepped over the boundary of propriety by suggesting that the matter was settled, without your permission that is. That was unconscionable. But knowing him( he is no linguist, forget fricatives) my guess would be that he was just being facetious, or maybe that being the bih-guti ( poison-seed, literally) he is, he was just pulling your legs, knowing of your role as A ,if not the THE, custodian of the Kamrupiya language.
Sondon-kai, will it be too much to expect you to make a clean breast of your transgressions and hopefully placate R-kai so he will leave us Jokaisukiyas, who are being burnt like uklur-logor-bogori, in peace?

CC: [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED]Gosh, Tilok, I didnt expect you to falsely accuse ME of sending r-baap on this war-path. I wasnt pulling no leg man. Nor did I have to take anybodys permission to declare the debate on the xo sound closed. Even r-baaps.
But, but,if an aplogy would bring peace to assam net, I will gladly lay me down, like a bridge over troubled waters ( dont you love this?) . You know me, ever the sacrificial lamb, the always ready scape-goat.
And I seek r-baaps forgiveness , with a cyber-paan-tamulor-xoraai and a Jokaisukiya Paani-gamosa,for being so uppity as to declare the debate closed, in front of all the net-raiz, once and for all. So help me gosh!
Yours truly,
s-kai
