Umeshji,

Yes, conceptually - I agree with what you say - that there should be minimum restrictions for movement of people and goods. While you are concerned about the movement of people, I (and my brethren in intn'l trade business) have much to say about the "anti dumping duty" being imposed on selective items imported from selected countries. This goes against the letter and spirit of GATT. While Uncle Sam and his nephews want free entry everywhere, and cries foul for the silliest reason. They even bomb the life out of any country on mere suspicion - this clearly states their intention of ruling the world.

With this as the background, it is difficult to rewrite demography by taking them on directly. Nothing is going to come out of it.

Let me tell you an incident that I found highly amusing/amazing. One of my colleagues in my former company had done his post grad in Singapore. There he met a Bengali (from B'desh) who had an authentic Italian passport! And the gent was in Italy only for a month! How was it possible when he was working, that too, illegally in Singapore? The guy had somehow managed to get save some money and went to Italy for seeing the world cup in 1990. On landing he destroyed his passport, with the intention of never returning to the subcontinent or anywhere in Asia. Coincidentally, he went there at a time when the govt was legalizing all refugees and he got his brand new identity papers there. With that he was able to apply for a passport and he got it!! Amazing.

The reason for me to narrate this story is - the really determined people will find a way out to reach their intended destination.

However - I agree with you in principle. There should be no unnecessary restrictions.
