informative and illuminating.
Incidentally, Mango is called "man-guo" in Chinese,
where guo is fruit (suei-guo).
Sad though that there are no organized orchards and
farms in Assam that cultivate quality mangoes. Most of the mangoes in the
market come from outside the state. Another sad thing is that even though
India is the second largest producer of fruit in the world (next only to
Brazil), it's exports are disappointingly low. Even Taiwan exports more
mangoes than does India and interestingly, most of the mango species originated
in India and acclimatized and adapted to Taiwan by an Indian scientist who now
heads the Argri-Horticultural research centre here!!
