Raiz,

when I visite dlast time Asam in Dec2002, I picked upa local brand of packaged tea called "korongoni". It was very good and very reasonably priced at Rs. 250/- per 500 gm. The tea was excellent. I brought over quote few packet and distributed to my colleagues mainly Chinese and few british. All of themm liked it very much and asked for more.

If you get this , you hsould try. Anny body in this net from assam, could try selling this outside Assam and India.

Subject: [Assam] Assam Tea

Netters were talking about Assam tea a few days ago. Today we picked up a box of tea-bags with the name Assam Tea. Though it said it was from India (Mamri blend), unfortunately it produced 'xereka saah' with no flavor, no smell - and no nothing. :-)

I can understand Saurav's disappointment as I was also thinking, if someone else (hearing about the reputation of Assam's tea) bought this product would really think that this is the standard of Assam's tea.

I wish someday some bright enterpreneurs from Assam could establish packaging and exporting Assam tea directly. This way they can enforce quality control and export the real McCoy. This package tells us that there are some unscrupulous businesses in Mumbai and elsewhere which are tarnishing Assam's good name -- the tea was not cheap, and was more expensive than Lipton.

BTW, they also had packages of loose tea - that might turn out better but I don't think I am going to risk buying this company's product again.

Muthote` xukhere` saah khuwar muda moril aaji. I still have 98 bags left. any takers? :-)
