PRESS RELEASE Dhakuakhana Shows the way of E-Commerce Dhakuakhana
26th September 2003: E- Commerce has made its unique appearance
in Assam’s most remote area namely
Dhakuakhana. Today on 26th
September, Sri M.C. Brahma IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Lakhimpur visits the
Community Information Centre, Dhakuakhana and accepting some package of organic
rice, which is free from chemical fertilizer and extracted through indigenous
“Dheki” to the order through CIC portal :

Brahma became the first buyer of
“Dhekir Chawl” through E-Commerce in Assam. The rice varieties were packaged through natural process using
endemic leaves which was designed by Miss Malaya Dutta Borah. Mr.
Brahma was extremely happy after
inaugurate the project and ordered
one quintal of “Aampahi
Chaul”. Inspired by his comment,
S.D.O (civil) of Dhakuakhana also ordered the same. In his speech
he encouraged and expressed best wishes to this unique venture which accordingly to him may sea change the rural economy and create
deep impact on people’s mind-set
due to largely involvement of students community in rural agriculture
sector. The name of
the students who offered their
rice to the Community Development Forum of Dhakuakhana are as follows,
The Community Development Forum (an NGO constituted by the students of CIC-Dhakuakhana) is the functionary
behind the pretty huge project. They are planning to develop a marketing
channel on various commodities
found locally through the Internet. Among these commodities “Dhekir Chaul” is one of them. They are already
flooded with orders and enquiries soon after the news about the project
published in the leading Assamese
daily “Asomiya
Pratidin”. The
forum plans to procure the
commodities from the local farmers (in case of rice, which is free from
chemical fertilizer and pesticides) and with these eco-friendly packaging , they will entertain the orders
received through e-mail. Initially these orders are received through e-mail. The
entire process will be done through the volunteer of Community Forum. The
portal on e-marketing is under
development . Later it is expected
to develop into fully secured
online transaction using credit card facility . Apart from rice, they are planning to sell paintings
made by local studnets. Later on
they will introduce more products
for commercialization such as “Muga & Pat Suta” The
forum aimed to promote E-Commerce
in the region and the well-being of
the area in the IT sector under the aegis of CIC Dhakuakhana with support from National Informatics
Centre and the District
Administration, Lakhimpur. D.
