Dear Friends,I received this email from you through a string of contacts.Along with writting to complain about the text books, may I suggest that you recommend a book for teaching Hinduism in schools. In the UK it is endorsed by several exam boards, and recommended by most Education Departments. It is recommended right from teaching the basics up to and including GCSE (16 year olds). It was written in the UK by VHP(UK) with the consultation of over 15 other Hindu organisations and is in it's 3rd print.(I understand that a nasty rumour was being spread in the USA that the book had been banned in the UK, but I assure you that is nothing more than a nasty rumour, it is recommended and highly sought after when it comes to teaching youngsters about Hinduism). Two somwhat unique thingsa about this book.1) The people who wrote it are Hindu's themselves.2) It was written with the consultation and advice of many organisation so it really does represent the whole of Hindu Dharma, rather than a single sect or group. The book's details are as follows:Title: "Explaining Hindu Dharma: A Guide for Teachers"Editor: N.K. Prinjafirst edition: 1996 (Published by RMEP of Chansitor Publications Ltd.)second edition: 1998 (Published by VHP(UK))second edition (reprint): 2001 (Published by VHP(UK))ISBN: 0953435415 (Hardback)0953435407 (Softback)I personally used the book to achieve a grade 'A' in GCSE Hinduism a year early, and many Hindu homes in the UK keep the book for easy reference when youngsters come along with difficult questions, and I keep a copy with me at university and am considered by many in our local Hindu Society to be a bit of a 'know it all' as I often know the answer to questions asked of me about Hinduism, little do they know I just come home and rrrefer to the book!!I hope this message can be sent along with the call to write to education departments, as they are more likely to take action if they are offered a solution. Many ThanksGaurav----- Original Message -----From: umesh sharmaSent: Thursday, October 16, 2003 6:08 PMSubject: USA: school speaks out : Hinduism belittled in their schools --Christianity in India eulogisedSchoolgirl Decries Treatment of Hinduism In US Schools

HOUSTON, TEXAS, October 2003: Trisha Pasricha, age 14, has written this
outstanding article describing her predicament as a Hindu girl dealing
with incorrect information on Hinduism in her text books. Trisha says,
"When 8th grade starts, India and Hinduism are summed up in a few short
sentences by the teacher. India is described as filled with pollution,
cows and poverty-stricken people. Hindus love to bathe in rivers where
they throw the ashes of their parents and yes, they do worship
elephants and monkeys." She adds, "Six chapters in the textbook were
devoted to Christianity whereas one page is given to the history of
India and the teachings of Hinduism." Her high school textbooks only
provided more of the same, with one textbook containing just three
sentences devoted to Skihism and Jainism. Trisha's advice to correct
the misrepresentation of Hindu culture is to read what your child's
Social Studies textbooks says on India and Hinduism. Writing a simple
letter or e-mail to the editor can make a world of difference for your
child and for thousands of others. She also suggests contacting the
Board of Education for your district since they decide which textbooks
will be used. The full text of her article is at "source" above.---------------------------------PS : No wonder the likes of Bobby Jindal are adopting Christianiy--under the covert conversion programme in US schools ---Education and media propaganda has great power--UmeshI was trying to find some info reagrding the Christian world's Aid programs -- ostensibly to help the poor world --but only thru Christian aid agencies --I wonder why the majority of such agencies are not of the majority faith of that country ----perhaps like the recommendations for scholarships --for higher studies in USa --the aid money too is under the recommendations of the Christian officials and their supportersSecondly, I was trying to find the circumstances in which the Christian world managed to fool the Jews in settling for current location f Israel --so that tehe blame of Hitler's Christian zeal in the holocaust -could now be shifted to the muslims -- --a very clever move --I must say. Nownow the world blkames Muslims for the --and have completely forgoten what Hitler did to Jews .So now both Jews and Muslims are presented as evil, squabbling faiths - and Christanity -the peaceful faith. No wonder --in Image Management the Christain world rules!!------Any info will be welcome...Umesh
