Hi,
this rediff article by a Punjabi lady from Mumbai amuses me no end. For it seems that prior to her trip to Dubai -her life had been a constant grind/partying. Where she didn't have time to look beyond her immediate surroundings.
I don't think she ever visited the famous Niros restaurent on MI road, Jaipur. A friend -Vivek- too noticed that they are more eager to serve the whites. Even the beggars and tourist guides flock towards the white and yellow skinned tourists.
Becos the whites or Japs have the dough!! Money makes the mare go.
If u go to Punjab or Delhi --- and if u r from a poor BIMARU state like Rajasthan or Assam -- I'm sure many people would treat you like a Dalit (Punjab thankfully seems free from caste feuds).
It is not the fault of rich Punjabis --they will automatcially look down upon guys from places where women are burnt as Sati, where millions are rendered homeless by manmade droughts or floods -through relentless tree cutting and lack of water management.
When US ignores WTO rulings and implements countermeasures to BPO -- NASSCOM changes tune from earlier braggodacio to a worried frown .
US has every right to treat Indians cavalierly --becos Americans have superior business sense --through "mega marketing" (including bribing corrupt govt officials and politicians) they are influencing the policies of our country to open our areas where we are hard hit -- --but poor Indians cannot see beyond their noses and do likewise.
I think I'll have to buy that Mediclaim policy for my family --after 2005 --when the medicines cost will go upto 20 times --thanks to India's penchant for fairplay in Pharma sector and faith in WTO Bible.
Indians rejoice when the sun rises -- with Surya Namaskaars and Ragaas for every hour and cry foul when the sun goes down. They forget to visualise the future and collect firewood for the cold night.
No wonder people look up to the Americans and give them Nobel Peace prizes for using military force.
I don't wonder , why do you?
