Assamese professor awarded in USA
 GUWAHATI, Sept 29: Dr Prasanta Kumar Kalita, an associate professor of Agricultural and Biological Engineering Department at the University of Illinois was awarded the NACTA teachers Fellow Award recently by the North American Colleges and teachers of Agriculture (NACTA) Society a press release received here said. This prestigious award is considered as one of the highest national awards for excellence in USA. Dr Prasanta Kumar Kalita, son of late Khargeswar Das and Nani Bala Das of Chapar of Dhubri district, has been in the teaching professor in the United States for about 12 years. He left for USA after obtaining degree from Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana and Master Degree in Engineering from Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), Bangkok. He did his PhD from Iowa State University and rose to become the Associate Professor in the University of Illinois.

During this period he received Best Research Paper Award in 2003 from International Association of Science and Technology, Accenture Outstanding Engineering Advisor Award in 2002 and 2004 from College of Engineering, Young College Faculty Award in 2003 from College of Agricultural, Consumer, and Environment Science (ACES) at the University of Illinois for his excellent performance.
