Human beings are evolutionarily more predisposed to favour "compartmentalization" and "caste divides"is one such compartment. Assamese society is no exception. The onus of recognizing the need to eliminate the blight of birth caste is on the higher rung of the caste ladder. Do positive responses of a few Brahmins or Kalitas willing to cut through the barrier of the caste divide apply universally to all of the Assamese society? Certainly not. Exception does not prove the rule. Plainly put, in the wilderness of "kaliyug," each one of us has to take responsibility for blunting the negative effects of caste system. In my opinion, still a long way to go ;-)
