At first I would say that I could not get your name. May be because it is a
name of a Village/Town.

Your comment regarding "Bangladeshis" are outcome of your thought process. You
were always fed with the term "Bangladeshis" as "Muslims". The realities I
faced are different. I met a lady in Dhubri who worked as a domestic help while
I was a gazetted officer of Govt. of Assam. She was a Hindu lady about 40yrs
old. One day I asked her where she lived and she replied "Choidha nombor
Basottar". My roommate, who was also a Gazetted office, could not get the
meaning. I deciphered the meaning "She came to Assam in the year 1972 and
staying in 14th Bangladeshi Refugee Camp".

Interestingly this is not the only instance. If you go to Silchar you will find
a Cloth Store, actually, I could not remember the name. The owner of the store
was bold enough to tell us in 1983 ( The Peak of Assam Agitation) that he
crossed the Bangladesh border in the year 1973 and established his business in
Silchar. He also claimed that no agitation can send him back to his motherland
again. He was around 56 years of age at that time.

So you cannot refer a synonym of Bangladeshi with Muslim.

- YES. ITS WRONG TO REFER A SYNONYM OF BANGLADESHI TO EVERY MUSLIM OF ASSAM.

THERE ARE ABOUT 10% MUSLIMS IN ASSAM WHO ARE NOT FROM BANGLADESH. THEY ARE AS
ASSAMESE/INDIAN AS WE ARE.

The origin of introduction Muslim Religion in Assam is very very different from
introduction of the same to rest of India. In India the Muslims came through
Afghanistan. Invaded India and patronized Muslim Religion.

- TRUE!

In contrast to that in Assam the religion was introduced by "Azan Pir" who was
a religious saint who acme to Assam at the time of "Ahom Dynasty". He never
forced anyone to accept his religion. Maximum of the Muslims of Assam are
convertees from local Assamese ( Conglomerate of many sects of persons) through
the process of time.

- HALF TRUTH. AND DANGEROUS!

WE ALL AGREE AZAN PIR WAS A GREAT SAINT AND PIONEER OF HINDU-MUSLIM BROTHERHOOD
IN ASSAM.

BUT, ANYBODY HAVING COMMONSENSE WILL AGREE THAT 90% OF MUSLIMS OF ASSAM ARE
BANGLADESHI / BANGLADESHI ORIGIN (PBO AS PIO). PBO LIVING IN ASSAM HAVE BECOME
SO POWERFUL (DUE TO POPULATION) THAT THEY NOW DARE TO DISTORT HISTORY.

AFTER ABOUT 10 YEARS TIME WILL COME, WHEN THERE WILL BE DEMAND TO REPLACE
ASSAMESE WITH SYLHATEE LANGUAGE! IF WE DONT ACT NOW.

TAKE EXAMPLE OF BARPETA DISTRICT- BEFORE 1911 THERE WERE ONLY A HANDFUL OF
MUSLIMS (LESS THAN 10%) IN BARPETA. ALL LOCAL ASSAMESE MUSLIMS. NOW, THERE ARE
61% MUSLIMS AND 39% HINDUS IN BARPETA DIST. (WHERE THESE 51% HAVE COME FROM?)

So if you go through the history the facts will become more transparent to you.

Let me analyze the reason why you were fed with the thumb rule/ synonym of
"Muslim" & "Bangladeshi":

1. This may be because invasion of India by Muslims and patronizing Islam made
Hindu priests make negative campaign against Islam to preserve their
respect/value in the society. Assam as never exposed to this type of communal
divide till 1979.

At the time of agitation in 1971,i.e. "Bhakha Andulon" ( it was an agitation to
reinstated Assamese as an official language instead of Bengali). All walks of
people speaking Assamese keeping aside their religion took active part in the
agitation. It was a success because we were united. At that time there was no
discrimination of sect, cast and creed .

-TRUE!

At the start of 1979 "Assam Andulon" also everybody participated the same way.
Gradually the synonym I have mentioned was fed by newspapers and persons of
Rest of India. In fact RSS was very happy that their anti Muslim drive could
have a breakthrough in Assam and the North East.

- WE (ALL THE NATIVES INCLUDING ORIGINAL ASSAMESE MUSLIMS AND TRIABALS) HAVE NO
OTHER OPTION EITHER TO EMBRACE MUSLIM RELIGION AND SYLHATEE LANGUAGE FOR
SURVIVAL OR DRIVE OUT ALL PBO OUT FROM INDIA/ASSAM.

I think I have written enough make the facts transparent.

IMDADUL MAZID
