In my opinion, this should not be a national issue.
This is merely a hindi film music competitions aired by one of the
hundreds of TV channels operated in India. The hype created by the
channels exploiting our emotions and sentiment will only help them in
doing good business and in spreading the filmi culture among our youth
and children

Dear Rajiv,
I appreciate you as an emotional person! Debajit sings well and would
be voted by Indian music lover.
Please keep your sylheti or Assamese or Bodo -this parochial
sentiments for other constructive purposes. There are many people in
Silchar who feel proud of speaking Assamese. It is not a
disqualification if one does not. All are not equally wise.
Music is not politics to be won by campaining for votes. Debajit is a
great singer, he will come out to make us all proud. Let us do not
diminish him by campaining for votes from NE alone! Rather request all
your Indian contacts to watch Sa Re Ga Ma and vote wisely! So far as
his speaking Assamese is concerned, it will add glory to him if he
does. Most of the educated Nepalies from Darjeeling do speak Bengali.
It is attitude and respect for a neighbouring culture.
I hope you have read the letter from Jebeen. Does she need Chinese in
the US? I do not know if the educated people of Silchar NEVER require
anything from Guwahati or NEVER deal with any other part of Assam or
Assamese speaking people.

Rajiv, please do not spread the news that people of Silchar does not
love and respect Assamese. If you think like that, you may be alone
and you will be doing much harm to Debajit. Please think well. Your
reaction should not create misunderstanding and you should not
politicalise to spread hatred through picking up some part of my
letter because you failed to understand the plain english which Rabin
had to point you out what I meant.

Regards,
Khanin

Dear readers,

I second the opinion of Mr Mayur. Like the way Assam is being
(ill)treated by rest of India, we should not treat the Bengalis in
Assam not as Assamese. Debojit has become a phenomenon in Assam, a ray
of light for the aspiring singers there. And I would like to clarify
that he had at least once asked for vote in Assamese. The way the
Assamese people have come together, has bought reminiscenses of the
Assam Revolution. 80% of votes from NE amounts to around 23 lakh
votes. More that triple of what they get in Indian Idol 2 as a whole.
Just for the word "Assam" is involved people are voting for him. Every
Assamese wants a fellow Assamese to prosper. Zubeen, though a
phenomenon himself in Assam, has failed to raise his sagging fortunes
in the Bollywoood. Now we see Debojit implant the words "from Assam"
in Indian Film/Pop Music history. Definitely we should support him to
the fullest. That would let to a considerable rise in people aspiring
for exposure. When people have backup from masses, their confidence in
themselves increase. Dont we, as Assamese, want to be remembered as
producing a number of good singers, musicians and talents. We do.
And by the way, as my surname "Dutta" suggests me to be a bengali, I
am not. I am pure Assamese from a little known town dreaming big
dreams. And their are many like me. We should support Assamese people
dreaming high.

Professor Pathak wrote an email to Ratne group -- I forwarded to
[email protected] assuming of use to Assamese -- that lead
this discussion. Perhaps some did not get the intellectual meaning of
the following that Professor Pathak wrote:

> This is against the spirit of music to vote
> for a singer considering him for his region or
> language.
> Debajit should be voted as a good singer
> but not as from Assam only.

Another way to rewrite above note:

* Region and language are not the criteria
to motivate you to vote for a singer
* Since Debajit is a good singer vote for him,
but not as because he is from Assam only.

Where to vote for Debajit

I would like to add,
there is a big population in Barak Valley who speak the State Language
as well as sylheti - Debajit must speak the State Language and
encourage others out there too.

I would also like to add,
the marketing people will take the advantage of the emotions exposed
by the people of Assam in the "filmi duniya" – my opinion here is same
as that of the Editor, DAINIK JANASADHARAN

Rabin
PS: I am a Kamrupi, my mother tongue is Kamrupi!
I learned State Language too ...
