Hi All,

"If companies like Wipro and Airtel can come from outside and establish
business, why can't we do it locally!"

I am out of Assam/India since last 8 years. So my knowledge is very
limited here. Ihave seen Engineering/MBA graduates from Assam in good
position in Delhi and Bombay in the same finance company (HDFC/ICICI).
If these company can hire people in Delhi from Assam, I disagree that
they won't hire them in Assam. I know personally in Wipro and Airtel,
very good Assamese people are working there in GHY.

Instead of complaining about not getting jobs, we should focus on
enterpreunership. That will create more jobs for us in Assam. If these
companies can come from outside and establish business, why can't we
do it locally.

And as far as talent is concerned, education and talent is excellent
in Assam. We just have to realise our potential. I agree with Arnav.
Look beyond Assam. You can always come back to Assam. There is always
opportunity somewhere. We have to find one for ourselves.

Airtel assures steps for local employees
By A Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, April 29 – The indefinite picketing programme of the
Guwahati city committee of Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba-Chatra Parishad
(AJYCP) to protest the anti-local policy of Bharti Televentures Ltd
(Airtel) has been temporarily suspended following a discussion between
Airtel authorities and the central committee members of AJYCP on April
26, an AJYCP statement said.

In the discussion, the AJYCP leaders urged the Airtel authorities to
get rid of their apathy towards the interests of the local employees.
Airtel authorities assured the AJYCP leaders that the locally absorbed
employees – 37 in all – would be enrolled as permanent staff within
August next and steps would be taken in this regard.

The AJYCP also said that it would keep strict vigilance over Airtel's
functioning here, and if the latter failed to abide by its assurance,
the AJYCP would be compelled to take severe democratic measures
against Airtel.
