Let me put forward my observations as well!

I was not even born when Nehru ruled india. I was too young to understand why
so many students were fighting to push out foreigners in Assam. But by the time
I grew up to understand what an Assamese is and why I am an Assamese I could
not connect the reason of our lost(loosing) identity to anyone other than us.

I grew up mostly outside Assam. I have lived in Assam for 8 years only, out of
my 33 years in this earth.

But I can speak my language, better and more correct than many of my fellow
comrades who studied in vernacular medium in Assam. Within my 8 years in Assam,
i learned the Asomiya script and the jouranalistic way of wrrting and I wrote
one article which was published in the fortnightly called Prantik.

Now I am getting older. My Maa and Deuta are asking me to get married. I feel
lonely as well, sometimes. All my relatives started looking for a Asomiya gal
for me. I started looking in the interenet as well.

Well, I must make it clear here as well, that my choice for an Assamese gal was
not a compromise f anysort, nor it is narrowmindedness. I like them, and they
will fit better to me and my family. SHortlisted few, called them up. Axomoiya
Suwali, so I started speaking in axomiya. NONE, JUST NONE of them replied back
in Assamese. It was really funny, I was spaking in Assamese, and the other one
was replyig back in Hinglish.I asked them where they studied, they replied,
Convent only....actually.., u know....chalo yaar....totally different style of
english though.

I rememberedd the novel by Prof. Dilip Kr. Dutta, Mone moor Kaina bisare.

>From 2003-2005 I was in Germany working for one major electrical company, HQd
>in Munich. Lot of the workforce was multi national. The company spent about 3
>lacs in one year, to teach me German. My german colleagues politely forced me
>to speak in German. I must say , lot of those colleagues speak better english
>than I do.

Last year in october , i got another job in another top Dutch multinational. I
am in this company for 13 months now. In these perioid this company has spent 7
lacs to teach me Dutch.

Not that business in done in Dutch. But since I am with a Dutch labor contract,
so the gvt and the society likes everyone to be integrated....thats the key
word.."Integrated". Well lemme come to the point now.

I think my love for my language started at home. My parents were key drivers of
that. Had they not been pushy , i had every chance never to learn the language.
I never studied Assamese as a languge till now. And then comes teh definition
of Assamese the word. So does it mean the people who speaks Assamese, or does
it mean in line with Dr. Hazarikas, song, Ami Asomiya nohoi dukhiya, anyone who
resides in Assam. If the second explanation is true, I dont see any problem
anywhere. But i beleive and for me i stand by the first definitaion. And in
that case, we, just WE are responsible for whatever is happeneing. Forget about
Banglaldeshis, forget about Nehru, forget about congress. Start loving your
language, Be proud of your identitiy.Proliferate your language in every sphere
of life. The marwari business community CAN speak Assamese. So dont punish them
by speaking ROTTEN hindi. Speak in Assamese, you will still get the best
bargain. Teach your english educated children correct Assamese, and dont infuse
them with your colonial mentality.

the whole debate of Bangadeshis in assam is sheer table talk, nothing more, coz
we never tried at our personal levels to solve that in a more realistic way.
Someone pointed out in fact, how much effort we toook to teach them Assamese.
Well if the Assamese population can grow organically overnight, to more than
double, it is not bad, isnt it. So teach them Assamese, rather than
frustratinng yourself and showing yourself as loosers in front of them.

Well I have used "YOU" all through out in this mail. I am not pointing at
anyone, and nor am i preaching. Just tried to exclude myself from, as I do what
I have written here. And please pray that my NRI statues will not be a curse in
findind a nice Axomiya suwali. Mone moor hosakoi Koine bisare;-)

With warm regards,

Amlan Bora
