I agree with Mr.Vabani but only partially. So far as the importance
of the role of every individual and each country towards making the
neighbourhood a good place to live in is concerned, it is ok and
perhaps play a great role in making it come true. But then, so far as
the other ground realities are concerned we see that problems like
economic divide, oppression, the rich and the poor divide will always
remain in spite of our best endeavours as if they rise from the
ground all of a sudden before our close vigil. The greater forces like
capitalsm are at work and are here to stay. The fall of the erstwhie
USSR testifies the fact that people or forces are always at work to
do harm to the existing socio-economic fabric. Curtailing defence
costs for the cause of the poor and the country is a remote
possibility and many a times politically not viable. It is because
national security and so called national interests are the favourite
hats the politicians like to wear in their troublesome times.
Terrorism, as I see it, is not an isolated problem and the state
machinery is directly or indirectly associated with the problem that
has spread its tentacles in the recent times. Even some facets of
terrorism are state run or politically funded where our education
level or mere conscious of general good can hardly do anything.
However, mr. Vabani's views rightly underline the " should be " role
or the need of the educationally enlightened section of the society
or the state.
