Anwesha's 5th Spring festival of Books for Children Anwesha a not-for-profit organization based in Guwahati, Assam is well known in Assam and the North-East for promotion of reading and quality books. It has been promoting reading and books for nearly a decade now. Anwesha has been organizing Spring Festival of Books for Children in Guwahati for last few years. The objective of the spring festival is to expose our children to the exciting world of books and inculcate and nurture the habit of reading among them. We also want to inspire creativity among the young people by organizing book related and other cultural events in the festival. Spring Festival has already acquired the status of an important annual event in the cultural scene of Assam. You will know more about the festival from the enclosed souvenir brought out on the occasion of the 4th Spring Festival.
We are happy to inform you that the 5th Spring Festival of Books for Children will be held from 28 April to 6 May, 2007 at A E I field, Guwahati. Sahitya Akademi Fellow and internationally renowned author Prof. Manoj Das of Sri Aurobindo International Centre of Education, Pondichery has kindly agreed to inaugurate the festival. As earlier, along with a colorful children's book fair lots of book related and cultural activities would be organized during the nine days of the festival. This time an added attraction of the festival will be a Science Exhibition- cum- Activity Corners. Besides inculcation of scientific temperament in the children the other two important themes of the science exhibition- cum- activity corners will be health and environment awareness. Considering the prevailing situation in Assam we are planning to use the 5th Spring Festival of Books for Children for instilling a sense of integrity and peace in the children. We want them focus more on the positive and creative side of life and kindle the love of books in their hearts and help them grow as loving human beings and responsible citizens. The main high lights of the festival will be a massive Peace and Book March, Talk by Children on How to Pursue Studies Amid Violence, Rang Mela, On the Spot Painting, Story Telling Session, Book Related Quiz, A Visit to Personal Libraries in the cities, Understanding the Brahmaputra, Interaction with Scientists, Discussion on importance of Learning English, Video Conferencing among the students of Guwahati and other states on Non-violence as means for resolving contentious issues.
