*DIRECTORS NOTE* AKASH

Study and detail analysis of Dr. Bhabendra Nath Saikia's stories is a tough
task. And the Exploration of these stories on the stage is equally
challenging.

The simplicity of the language used, the depth of feelings, the close study
of human mind that are present in his stories have attracted me since my
childhood.

In one word, the play production AKASH is an attempt of self-analysis.
Because as human beings, we are covered by various images, logic (rational
irrational), and masks. And tactfully these elements are hidden for various
self-created reasons.

The protagonist of the play *Mr. Choudhury* is not a self-centered person
but is surely a common self-conscious person with modern thoughts. Through
out the play, he discovers gradually the minute elements of own nature and
these discoveries leaves a deep impact on the audience.

The pleasure and entertainment amidst the tensions surrounding human life
through simple and comical presentation is the purpose of the play
production.

*BAHARUL ISLAM* *SYNOPSIS OF THE PLAY * AKASH

AKASH is a comical story by Dr. Bhabendra Nath Saikia. It portrays the
concern of a father whose daughter is about to get married.

The protagonist * Mr. Jyotirmoy Choudhury* is a concerned father receives an
unknown letter revealing the love trysts of his would be son in law. With
only six days to go for the wedding ceremony, the old man starts having
sleepless nights due to the letter.

In one such night, he wakes up and with deep concern and hidden fear of the
consequences of such wedding he starts introspecting the letter and the
situations that can arise.

He recollects the day when his daughter came to this world, the
celebrations, and the happiness that surrounded their life. With such love
and care he raised his daughter, and now if he gives her away to guy of such
character, how will be her life?

*Mr. Jyotirmoy Choudhury* tries to sleep again but gets up as some thoughts
comes to his mind.

His memories float through the passage of time when he was a young and
single. And the various women that came to his life at different time,
different place and different situations.

He finds that even he had such affairs in his life and thus realizes that
such issues matter little in life, but just as he is about to share his
relief with his wife, she tells him the same thing her self-' *Don't worry,
this happens in everybody's life. In future, all will be o k."*

She sleeps again.

Soon this philosophical realization morph into suspicion towards his wife
and a new cause of concern takes root in his mind.
