GU Diamond Jubilee: The following emienent personalities graced the Inaugural Function of the Diamond Jubilee celebration of Gauhati University as distinguished Guests in the morning of 26 Jan 08 besides thousands of welwishers gathered in the University. Dr Gautam Baruah, Director, IIT, Guwahati Dr Bhupati Das, CMD, NRL, Dr Srinath Baruah, Vice-Chancellor, KK Handique State Open University, Dr Amarjyoti Choudhury, Vice-Chancellor, GU unfurled the University flag and did welcome all with his powerful speech. The distinguished dignitries addressed the large gathering in the open air and encouraged all to do more for the University, for the region and for the Country The Special appearance of the following NRIs of UK were the main focus of attention in the function when they came out of their hotels/residence on 26 January to celebrate such a moment: Dr Anil Rn Borthakur & Ms Lahori Borthakur Dr Kumud Sarmah & Dr (Ms) Indira Sarmah Sjt Kamal Hazarika & Dr Karuna Sagar Das The lucid, philosophical and powerful speech of Dr Anil Rn Borthakur delighted the audience. A colorful cultural programme was organised by the PG students of the University. The University community offered diya (Thousands of lights) in the evening and made the University campus to glow like anything.
