World Veterinary Day by Early Birds at Pobitora Guwahati- April, - The world Veterinary Day, which is observed in the last Saturday in the month of April every year had been observed by Early Birds ,an wild life and animal care organization on 27th of the month around Pobitora wild life sanctuary with gaiety. A free vaccination and treatment camp was organized on the occasion at Raja Mayang and Murabori village Altogether one hundred seventy three cattle were vaccinated and lots of medicines including one for de- worming were freely distributed. But the plight of Pobitora is very much at stake due to grazing of large number of cattle inside the park which often causes shortage of fodder to the wild counterpart. A trance like barrier or a fencing can only prevent such a huge intrusion which at times causes serious problem to the management planning. The idea of a barricade should not be whisked away as an impossible one as the same had been tested in African countries with success. India no longer remains a poor country to dismiss such a step as an illogical and unsounded one. As a whole, Indias wild life situation is going through a crisis sphere and large number of wild beast are killed daily in every nook and corner of the country. A case in point here , on 20th April a forest guard had a resort to open firing at Laokhowa wild life sanctuary to prevent some misdeed by encroachers and wood cutters. But to the utter surprise of all, the next day only the Forest guard was arrested and strip off his uniform while both the parties had filed FIR at Rupahi Police Station. Was the Forest guard was at fault while discharging his duty or the encroacher was right to carry on his illegal activity? This single incident is enough to act as an eye opener how Indias pristine forest resources are protected by the law enforcing bodies. We demand that DGP should enquire in to the incident and high handedness of the police official.
The Pobitora camp was attended by Moloy Baruah, Mayur Plaban barua , Pulakesh Talukdar and three veterinarians , Prasanta Boro, Anjan Chakraborty and Anil Deka. Moloy Baruah
