I rarely come to such email discussions because they generate more words,
unpleasantness and emotional anger than anything useful or practical. People
hide behind pseudonyms to disguise their real faces and identities, for
whatever reason. There are many occasions when different identities (ids)
but are but one person!

I also see that from time to time various email groups "Manners" for the
net. I find these are rarely followed and that some people like to indulge
in abuse and defamatory accusations.

Anyone who has followed my work for all the years that I have been working
on issues relating to the north east including my books, essays, articles
and interviews as well as the years with The New York Times knows that this
is nothing but rubbish.

assumptions based on personal prejudices and lack of understanding of the
issue in depth try to box us into various points of view, which others try
to dictate to us. Anyone who is responsible for this horror on Assam -- and
that means any armed group, any government official, any politician, any
faction, Islamic or otherwise -- must be tracked down and dealt with in the
strongest manner, by law. Those interested can read my views expressed
within hours of the blasts which were carried by the Indo-Asian News
Service.

Instead of reflecting on and sensibly analyzing the tragedy and seeing what
should be done to help people affected by it, some are trying to score
points. That is just a cynical manipulation of free media and open spaces.

And "Dibya", the creature you are referring to is the Ostrich which buries
his head in the sand. it is not the Emu. similarly you have got the wrong
person for double speak since my views have been consistent. Those who want
everyone to sing one tune, to jump to immediate conclusions without any
sense of responsibility are the ostriches.

I shall not be reacting to anymore of this because it generates more
unpleasantness than clarity at a time we should be thinking of the common
good. Instead we think of pulling each other down!

Good wishes
