Threre are always 2 sides of a coin. The recent serial blast in Assam have been
catastrophic no doubt; but it has resulted in unpreceedented response from all
walks of life. The people of Assam have been used to the blasts before, but the
magnitude of damage to the life and property of the people the recent paste
have shaken people from the root. The pathetic response from the Government in
general and the police in particular after the blasts has shown their
unpreparedness for a calamity of that magnitude. The blasts have shown the
lacuna and drawbacks existing in the present disaster management system and the
scopes of improvement in this regard. The Government should learn from the
incident and instead of passing the blames to the people for the after blast
lawlessness, must come forward with a solid disaster management plan so that
the unwanted incidents are not repeated in future.

The powerful blast has also evoked positive response from the central
government. The long standing demand for sealing the border with Bangladesh has
suddenly become a priority for the government. The issues about migration of
bangladeshis to Assam has caught the national attention after suspect of the
involvement of Bangladeshi Jihadi groups in the bomb blast.

The emotional response from the people after the blast also have been touching.
The long queue of the peolpe to donate blood to the victims, lighting of
candles for peace, community prayers have made people emotionally united in the
hour of grief. The people have given a strong message to the terrorists that
inspite of the evil plans of the terrorists, the people will always remain
strong by the strong human bonds.
