There is no need to use &SYSNDX to generate a sequence of label prefixes,
infixes, or suffixes. I have an RYO macro that generates [multiple] sequences
of labels or the like of the form
<prefix>__aaaaaaaa
<prefix>__aaaaaaab
<prefix>__aaaaaaac
. . .
<prefix>__aaaaaaaz
. . .
<prefix>__zzzzzzzx
<prefix>__zzzzzzzy
<prefix>__zzzzzzzz
i.e., 26^8 = 208,827,064,576 distinct
<prefix>__<alpha string>
outputs for each value of <prefix>; and variations on such schemes are easy to
implement.
In particular, the strategic inclusion of such concatenations as '_'.'_', two
or more successive break characters (which the HLASM treats as alphabetic and
thus licit in labels and identifiers) in generated values makes unwitting
duplication of an element of someone else's sequence very unlikely.
