Sometimes.  I remember once entering a thoughtlessly composed operator
command,
perhaps "d u, whatever" and watching helplessly as 4096 "nnn DOES NOT
EXIST" lines
scrolled by while I thought, "Look, you moron!  If you can accept a
subrange notation on
input, you could equally jolly well format the output likewise!"
