This is my SETPROF REXX that I use to set my common profile settings:

/* REXX */
ADDRESS ISREDIT
'MACRO'
'PROFILE UNLOCK'
'RECOVERY ON'
'NUMBER OFF'
'HILITE AUTO'
'IMACRO NUMOFF'
'AUTOSAVE OFF PROMPT'
'PROFILE LOCK'
The NUMOFF initial macro tests for the specific type of data that's being edited, and performs additional actions.

This is an annoying and aberrant setting for any non-PC or non-unix use, which is to say ALL mainframe applications and work. However, when I set it to off, it ends up being reset somehow by ISPF. It seems that sometimes I am not even in browse or edit and it still does it. How can I reset this obvious over-riding default which I dislike?

Create a REXX ISPF macro. It can set nulls OFF (or anything else you
desire). You can define that on the edit entry panel or for each
dataset type.
