Do you mean bits 32-39? In AMODE 24, BAL puts the Condition Code, Instruction Length Code and Program Mask in those bits. In AMODE 31 or 64, AFAICT, the information stored in R1 is the same for BAL and BRAS. -- Tom Marchant
