I have a stop-watch macro and subroutine I use to get
comparisons for assembler code. I've found it necessary to
repeat instructions anywhere from 10K to 1M times in order to
get useful values; and at that, they are not repeatable (about
10% difference) due to pipelining and variable system load. I
suspect that unless you use the full resolution of the clock,
you may not get meaningful figures, and the overhead for calling
and executing TIMEUSED may invalidate your results. At a
minimum, call the subroutine twice (start and stop) to get a
feel for the overhead without any code execution.
