It's certainly the most advanced macro language available. That said, there are annoying lacunæ. Why can I not write my own functions? I understand---perhaps incorrectly---that a control-block-overflow problem currently precludes implementing more BIFs; but making it possible for me to write my own, locally defined functions should be a much easier thing to do.
