TRT and TRTE are different, but TRTE and TRTRE provide you with
everything you need.

o RC=0, no [new] non-zero function byte
  found (and input exhausted)

o RC=1, a non-zero function byte has
been found and input is not exhausted

o RC=1, a non-zero function byte has
been found and input is exhausted.

In noth cases R1 + 1 is decremented appropriately.

You have everything you need. TRTE and TRTRE are just a lot easier to
'iterate'. You just branch back and 'do it again' until RC=0
obtains.

The CC is not sert in one case.
