To be precise, the PL/X compiler was available to ISVs as part of PWD for a while in about 1992 (+/- a year or two). We got it, because hey, why not? That was the year that PWD cost $5,000 to be a member. Partway through the year, they changed the rules and decided it wasn't a chargeable thing after all. So we were to et our money back! But then I got a call saying that since we had taken the compiler, and POK had had to pay RAL for it, we wouldn't be getting $1600 of the $5K back. Fortunately I hadn't told my boss about the $5K yet, so I got to go tell him "We're getting a bunch of money back!", not "We're getting SOME money back, because I accepted a supposedly free compiler that really wasn't". .phsiii
