My post contains a typo or transmission error that rather destroys its
usefulness.

The line

|lus_64 seta BYTE(x'40)   . . .

was deprived of the two leading characters '&p'.  It should be

|&plus_64 seta BYTE(x'40')

More generally, I would of course be enthusiastic about an assembler
that generated code corresponding to what I had intended to write
rather than what I did in fact write.
