Sorry, missed this because of the title! Recently, nearly all our COBOL application staff starting working from home full time. The assembler group decided to remain in the office because we felt the close contact allowed us to shout ideas etc. out and made us a lot more productive overall. We also have a trainee, and hands on teaching is a lot easier when you're together. We do work from home one day a week though.
Not sure what you mane by "what uses". "Umbrella" is the Hogan Umbrella, a banking middleware product. It sits between the business applications and the underlying environment (i.e. batch, IMS or CICS) and DBMS (VSAM, IMS or DB2) so the applications are written such that they're TPMS and DBMS agnostic. Therefore, we have our hands in everything.
