Yup - the mask bits apply to the bytes in the register but the bytes in storage are always contiguous. On the other hand my syntax above is almost certainly wrong. I think it would need to be =B'0000,0001,0011,0111,1111'. But do B constants right or left align/pad? Well, it can be looked up. Tony H.
