suspect you may be using a Spanish or Spanish-American keyboard layout,
with the corresponding code page 'character mangling'.
If so, try capital eñe (Ñ), which is the assigned character for x'7B'.
Of course, your code will then be as ugly as sin; you can blame the
half-baked mess that IBM cooked up in the late 1970s, when they realised
that there was a market for non-English data processing and invented the
so-called 'National Use Characters' in great haste.
As an alternative, you might want to change your *terminal* code page to
1145, or 1148 if you're also programming in languages with []{}, which IBM
also messed up.
