        Nevermind.  I got a compile-time message implying I needed a 
relative instruction for the above.  But, it actually turned out that I 
needed to change the definition of the translate table.  It worked before 
because the translate table was at the end of the code and covered by a 
code base register.  I added LOCTR which moved the translate table before 
most of the code and ended up with a translate table that started *before* 
the beginning of the program.   So, I added the unneeded part of the 
translate table and all is well.
