Fixed it. Need to change my procedures so that I check RHEL6 before
tagging a release -- maybe even before pushing a patch upstream.
Sigh... :-(
My fix won't work on Windows with odd character sets. For windows you
need the glib version. This is OK since we'll have to bundle a version
of glib when we install on Windows anyway...
