Hi Thomas,

Yes , this is what I want… but that was another thread. (yes, yes… I have many
wishes)

This thread was about creating the MSGid. AFAIK it’s ASSP itself that is
creating the unique and cached MSGid. To make this work I will need to
configure my mailserver to use ASSP as a smart host. The problem there is that
I’m not always able to send mail because I have, for instance, an invalid PTR.
mDaemon can be configured to send mail directly but when it fails it will use a
smart host. Subsequent mail to that host will go directly to the smart host.

If this last task can be done by ASSP, I can configure mDaemon to always make
use of ASSP as the outgoing server and ASSP will be able to watermark the
message.

Jean-Pierre,

In any of the next versions 2 you'll find under 'Backscatter Detection' the
choice 'Back250OKISP'  ->

"If any Backscatter check failes for a bounced mail that is coming from an
ISPIP, ASSP will send "250 OK" to the ISP, but will discard the mail, if the
check is configured to block!"

I hope it is, what you want!?

That's right ! BATV can only be used, if every outgoing mail gets a BATVTag
created with same pool of secrets and procedures. Because there is no RFC for
BATV (only a draft), the privat Tags '[EMAIL PROTECTED]' could be done how ever
anyone want it to do! ASSP creates the BATV-Tags strictly on the
recommendations of this draft!

BATV will NEVER work perfectly and should not be relied on 100% except
in special circumstances where you control everything, because there is
nothing stopiing someone from using their ISP for outbound mail.

So, imho, ASSPs use of BATV should normally be for SCORING as opposed to
an outright block/allow...
