The testing I did was using whitelisted external senders, sending using Outlook (so I doubt it's malformed....but it's Microsoft, so anything is possible, I suppose) - I was sending mail from my work address, which uses Outlook 2007 through an Exchange server, which then goes through MessageLabs. Sending tests using non-whitelisted senders was sent from GMail, which was caught correctly.
