I temporarily upgraded to 1.5.1.8(1.0.00) and its behaviour was exactly the 
same, so you can consider this an 1.5.1.8 question.....

The most important question is why I can't see this in my log and have to turn 
on debugging to find out that answer of my MTA. The sender apparently knows it 
didn't send the mail because it comes back every 20 minutes.

I always thought the "Message OK" also meant the MTA explicitly accepted the 
message....
If not, can this be added to the log for every message (MTA's answer that it 
accepted the message).

What's also unclear is if ASSP supposed to detect any refusal of the MTA and 
this behavior is a bug in my ASSP per se or just something I have to live 
with....

If Bare LF's are really that wrong it could be an optional extra check in ASSP. 
ASSP will then refuse the message and make a clear logging entry....
