Deprecated != won't work

Feel free to use port 465, especially if you need to support older mail
clients that won't work with 587 (Outlook Express
 and older versions of Outlook)...

The bottom line is, you can use any port for anything you want - you
just might have problems if/when it comes to supporting $random_users.
