Well... I've been running clamav for quite some time now and,
sincerely, I believe is a needed addition to ASSP since it helps
cutting off a number of junk which may otherwise get through :)

As I wrote, I'm using it; the setup is pretty straightforward, just
a matter of RTFM to understand how to configure the clamd
and freshclam "conf" file and to get a grip about setting both
up to run as services at that point you'll just need to set up
ASSP to connect to your clamD on port 3310 and let it go :)

A good start may be installing the tBB package found here

http://hideout.ath.cx/clamav/

and then once properly running, upgrade the clamav files
to the latest release found here

http://guysalias.fateback.com/misc/clamav/

done that, and after ensuring everything is working I'd suggest
you to install the tBB "clamsup" script (along with rsycn) so that
you'll be able to add the SaneSecurity signatures to your clamav

http://www.sanesecurity.co.uk/databases.htm

those sigs are rather effective and will help you stopping a
whole lot of junk, not just malware but also image/pdf spam
and more; also notice that, if you want, you may install the
clamav/freshclam on a different machine from the one on
which you're running ASSP; while this may and will impose
some overhead due to the fact that the scan traffic will then
flow over a network connection, it may help reducing the
load on the box running ASSP
