Anyone who runs their own mailserver should always at least be running 
their own caching DNS server (and do NOT use any public DNS servers like 
google or opendns for your upstream resolvers).

Having the ability to define local DNS hosts is also very useful, and 
worth implementing - and very far from 'building a nuke to kill a chicken'.
