>ASSP_OCR,v 1.25

Has a BUG - on Win32 it does not scan images - it ignores them without a
hint.

Update.
I have reverted to build ASSP_OCR,v 1.25 2010/10/15 15:00:00 and that is
working fine without any worker hangs.....plugin set to block.

It is scanning incoming & outgoing images & pdf's OK.

Steve, what version of ASSP_OCR.pm plugin do you use? If the version is
less than 2.01 -> upgrade.

Even with the new plugin, in most cases the current OCR implementation of
assp is useless. The reason is simple. Spammers who uses images to deliver
spam, never uses machine (OCR) parseable images.
It is also very easy to compromize a system with an very high compressed
image (1MB -> 30MB) - doing OCR on a 30MB image take simply tooooo long
and uses 100%cpu for a tooo long time.

There are other, much better technologies available to detect a
'spam-image'. I'm still analyzing, how this could be implemented in assp.
These technologies are analyzing several different attributes of the image
(size, color deep, is photo, is icon, is captcha, is screenshot ....?).
I also think that spammers will not generate a large amount of different
images (except captchas). So a centralzed database (like GRIPLIST) of
image checksums would help to detect those images very fast.

I'll start a new thread 'assp image processing' - I'm highly interested in
ideas, hints, code or codefragments related to this problem.

For a few versions now, I think from 11302, since upgrading to Activeperl
5.14, emails containing images are hanging the main worker...

I've disabled the ASSP_OCR Plugin and it's no longer hanging the worker.
It scans pdf's OK, issue is with images, .png & jpeg.

ASSP version 2.1.2(12002), activperl 5.014002. 5.10 was completely
uninstalled and the old Perl dir removed.
W2K8R2SP1
Imagemagik 6.7.3-4 Q16

Nothing in the log after it says scanning the file...that's when it hangs.

All perl modules are up to date, apart from snmp agent, which I still cant
get to install...:( can't find snmp.lib

Any help would be appreciated.
