totally correct <sigh> (as a note, I'll probably be able to move from
5.10 to 5.14 in a while, pending some "migration" ;-D)

I've to admit that, yesterday, while looking at that error, I did some
research and found that there are quite a number of perl modules
dealing with strings conversion and file handling (in unicode); the
point is that I don't know what *exactly* you need, otherwise I may try
ferreting a bit to try finding something useful
